Completion of Continuous Medical Education / Continuous Professional Development Framework

Dr. Jamal Al-Khanji, A/Chief Executive Officer, QCHP, announced that the Accreditation Department has completed the project NHS 5.2.7. “A Framework for Continuous Medical Education (CME) / Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in Qatar”.

This was accomplished in partnership with the Royal College Canada International (RCCI) and a diverse group of stakeholders who are engaged in CME/CPD from public and private healthcare organizations and academic institutions in Qatar. Dr. Samar Aboulsoud, Manager, Accreditation Department, QCHP, mentioned that the National CME/CPD Accreditation System for the State of Qatar is a hybrid system that embraces both CPD provider-based and CPD activity-based accreditation. Moreover, this system is unique as it is unified for all healthcare practitioners.

The project NHS 5.2.7. is one of the key outputs of the NHS Project 5.2 related to the establishment of the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners (QCHP), the regulatory body for all healthcare practitioners in the State of Qatar. Moreover, the Accreditation Department, QCHP continues to work towards achieving other complementary milestones of the project in preparation for the successful implementation of the mandatory CME/CPD participation policy. The policy, that will require fulfillment of CPD credits by healthcare practitioners for licensure renewal, will be in place by January 2016.

The Accreditation Department, QCHP, had recently held the “Accreditation Summit 2” workshop in association with the Royal College Canada International (RCCI) as part of a series of workshops introducing the new framework for stakeholder. Professor Craig Campbell, Director for CPD, RCCI and Dr. Samar Aboulsoud led the workshop and the discussions. The workshop was highly interactive and a general consensus was reached on the acceptance of the new CME/CPD framework and accreditation system. The valuable engagement of stakeholders is essential to ensure a smooth transition of the new CME/CPD policies, standards and procedures. –
