Electronic system to monitor vaccination

A new electronic system will soon be in place at primary health centres to monitor vaccinations and alert people about their vaccination  schedules, a senior official of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has said.

Once the system is implemented, people will receive text messages reminding them of their appointments and missed vaccination schedules. The new system will also solve the problem of language barrier for expatriate communities.

Dr Mohammed bin Hamad Al Thani, director of public health at SCH said that the new system will make monitoring of vaccination data more accurate and efficient.

Speaking on the sidelines of world vaccination week being held in Doha, Al Thani said that national  vaccination programme covers14 types of vaccines for everyone living in Qatar. It has played a significant role in reducing child mortality.

Dr Hamad Al Remaihi, director of health protection and communicable diseases section at SCH said that  vaccination coverage in Qatar is more than 90 percent, while there are 3million children in the middle east who don’t receive the required vaccines.

He urged people travelling to Qatar from countries with diseases that Qatar is planning to fully eradicate to make sure they have completed the vaccinations. They must produce a vaccination certificate in such cases. These diseases include measles, rubella and child polio.

Soon the SCH will launch a campaign to eliminate measles by the end of this year targeting children aged 10 to 13 years to make sure they have received the required measles vaccine.
