Workshop on Public Health Emergency Preparedness

Supreme Council of Health in association with Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health conducted a workshop titled “Public Health Emergency Preparedness for National Health Security in Qatar “at the Grand Heritage Doha Hotel, from 22nd -26th February, 2015.

Relevant Representatives and medical professionals had been invited and attended from the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Petroleum and Qatar Red Crescent society.  This workshop aims to provide an introduction to public health emergency preparedness from an “All Hazards” comprehensive approach, including natural disasters, unintended human acts, and emerging threats such as a pandemics and will focus on the critical issues facing public health professionals and policy makers in these contexts.

The main goal of the workshop is to assist the participants to effectively perform significant roles in institutional and/or governmental preparedness efforts, toward a wide range of public health threats. Also it covered the concept of communicating risk to the public and media ( TV, radio, social media …etc ), As well as how to establish and build up an organized system of communication to assure proper coordinated health sector response among all health care providers, this in turn would prevent duplication or conflict during any response to any disaster or emergency. A scientific approach was presented based on latest evidence based practice supported by transparency and trust fundamentals in risk communication.
